BMS World Mission

Who can BMS use?

Megaphone Preaching

If you have a skill or ability we will endeavour to use you. We have people who are administrators, doctors, evangelists, teachers, solicitors, pastoral workers, engineers, community health workers, trainers, accountants, theological educators, pastors, occupational therapists, lecturers, librarians, consultants, nurses, agriculturists, hostel parents, PAs, counsellors and many others.

"We can make a difference in our corner of the world. We are taking the church to the people who don't go to services. God's love is in action. That's why we're here.

Mark and Suzana Greenwood, BMS church and community workers in north east Brazil.

There are some restrictions however.

We cannot offer a long term overseas placement to someone who does not normally live in the UK. Many countries of the world now have their own sending bodies and if you do not live in the UK and want to serve as a mission worker we encourage you to contact the Baptist Union in your own country.

BMS exists to serve the Baptist Unions of Great Britain, Scotland and Wales. We mainly, though not exclusively, accept people as long term workers who are members of Baptist churches in the UK. The most important thing, however, is that you are an active member of your church.

"Someone wanting to disciple people overseas should be able to show they have discipled people at home.

David Kerrigan, BMS Director for Mission

We encourage everyone who applies to us to talk first with the leadership of their church. They will have useful advice to give you and may be able to give you opportunities to develop your mission skills!
